Description

Delicious heart-shaped cookies perfect for Valentine’s Day, fun to decorate and simple enough for kids to help with.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red and pink icing or fondant for decoration
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a baking sheet.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until combined.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into heart shapes and then cut a small notch into each heart to resemble envelopes.
  6. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
  7. Let cool completely. Decorate with red and pink icing or fondant and add sprinkles if desired.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality unsalted butter and fresh eggs. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
