Delicious heart-shaped cookies perfect for Valentine’s Day, fun to decorate and simple enough for kids to help with.
Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red and pink icing or fondant for decoration
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a baking sheet.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into heart shapes and then cut a small notch into each heart to resemble envelopes.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Let cool completely. Decorate with red and pink icing or fondant and add sprinkles if desired.
Notes
For best results, use high-quality unsalted butter and fresh eggs. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
